FASSTT study outline for samples used in this study. Eligible pregnant women (n = 226) were randomized into two groups: placebo (n = 94) and folic acid (n = 96). Women withdrew (n = 25) or were excluded from the intervention for the reasons indicated. A total of 119 women completed the trial. Blood samples were taken at gestational weeks (GW) 14 (pre-intervention) and 36 (post-intervention). Cord blood samples (n = 86) were taken at birth
