Targeting epigenetic modifiers in ovarian cancer. DNA (light blue line) is wrapped around histones (light blue spheres). The SWI/SNF complex (components of which are commonly mutated in ovarian cancers, especially ARID1A and SMARCA4) remodels chromatin and mutations in these proteins change the epigenetic landscape. Drugs targeting BET proteins (BETi), histone methylation (EZH2i), histone acetylation (HDACi), and DNA methylation (DNMTi) change gene expression in cancers and are currently being explored as therapeutic options for ovarian cancer in clinical trials.
