Genetic effects on smoking-related CpG sites and gene expression and the risk of COPD. Relations between genetic variant (rs17486278), DNA methylation (cg22563815) and gene expression (CHRNA5). Cg225638115 was found to be differentially methylated between current smokers and never smokers. This CpG is associated with the expression of CHRNA5. The CpG and CHRNA5 both are under genetic control of rs17486278, which has been found to be associated with COPD in previous GWAS
