Histone methylation pattern in HIV-1 transcription and latency: histone can undergo post-translational (methylation) modifications. These modifications could determine the gene expression by regulating the local and global chromatin architecture. Trimethylation marks of lysine 4, 36, or 79 on H3 results in gene activation while di or trimethylation of lysine 9 and trimethylation of lysine 27 on H3 is associated with chromatin condensation
