Transcriptomic profiles of naïve CD4 T cells indicate erythroid contamination when sorting by the standard, but not the stringent, FACS strategy. Log2(expression) of 20,876 gene probes in naïve CD4 T cells sorted by either a standard (no erythroid exclusion) or stringent (exclusion of erythroid-specific surface markers) FACS strategy. Top differentially expressed genes between these T cell populations were hemoglobin genes and ALAS2, a gene involved in heme synthesis, all of which exhibit increased expression in T cells sorted without formal exclusion of erythroid lineage markers
